QALAT (Pajhwok):  Nearly 500 people received licences after being trained as professional drivers in southern Zabul province during the first six months of this solar year, an official said on Sunday, attributing decreased traffic accidents to the training course.

Traffic official Col. Abdul Ahad told Pajhwok Afghan News the training had been useful in the prevention of accidents and helping drivers to become professional.

Each driver among the 480 men received a15-day training and issued licence after going through all the legal process, he said.

During the training, the individuals learnt traffic rules, signs, how to ply city’s roads and main highways and how to avoid speed and protect their vehicles from being stolen, Ahad said.

He said the training helped reduce the number of accidents taking place this year, when 10 accidents occurred compared to 13 last year.

Drivers, who attended the training, said it helped them a lot.

One of them, Syed Ahmad, said he learnt how to drive on highways, claiming accidents involving taxis had decreased on highways.
