KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Members of Provincial Council (PC) and tribal elders of southern Kandahar province on Tuesday asked United Nation Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) to help ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan.

During a meeting with UNAMA Deputy Special Representative Tadamichi Yamamoto, provincial council members and tribal elders demanded him to help stop neighbors’ interference that had been a source of destabilization of Afghanistan.

Yamamoto, who is recently appointed as special representative of UNAMA, visited Kandahar where he held meeting with Governor Toryalai Wisa, national security director Gen. Esa Mohammad, head of peace council Haji Atta Mohammad Ahmadi and provincial council head Haji sayyed Khan Khakrezwal. 

During his meeting with the governor, the UNAMA envoy was briefed about political and security situation of the province. Yamamoto was informed about the development in Kandahar during the previous years and demanded him to extend all possible support for the province development.

Wisa asked Yamamoto to play his role in bringing peace and stability to Afghanistan and encourage international donor agencies to launch developmental projects which would leave positive impact on the locals’ economy.

Yamamoto assured his support to help resolve problems being faced by the people of Kandahar.
