WASHINGTON (PAN): The United States on Thursday welcomed the announcement that the vote audit process would be resumed on Saturday, saying the immense undertaking required hard work and commitment from many people involved.
“We welcome today’s (Thursday) announcement by the Afghan Independent Election Commission and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan has adopted the recount and invalidation criteria proposed by the UN and based on Afghan law and international best practices,” State Department Deputy Spokesperson, Marie Harf told reporters at her daily news conference.
she said the adoption of the invalidation criteria and other efforts the IEC was making to improve the audit process would the audit move forward more quickly and efficiently.
Harf said and urged both candidates to instruct their teams to participate fully and constructively in the audit when it resumed on Saturday.
