HERAT CITY/JALALABAD/LASHKARGAH/TALUQAN (Pajhwok): In a gathering arranged on eve of International Women’s Day, speakers on Tuesday voiced concerns that violence against women has surged in some provinces of the country, including Nangarhar, Helmand, Herat and Takhar provinces.
Nasima Hamdard, Herat women affairs director, said that 22 percent increase had been noticed in violent incidents against women in the province.
She said as many as 323 incidents of violence had been registered which showed 22 percent increase in violent cases directed against women as compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, Anisi Imran, Nangarhar women affairs director, complained that violent incidents against women had increased in the province.
She said in the progressive year, 153 incidents of violence against women had been registered which was twofold comparing to the previous year.
Masuma, teacher of education faculty, expressed concern over the growing number of violent incidents in the province. She said majority of the violent cases were registered of forced marriages.
Similarly, the women affairs directors of Sothern Helmand and Northern Takhar provinces voiced increase in incidents of violence against women in their respective provinces.
