KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaint Commission (IECC) on Thursday embarked on the complaint investigation process in the second shift at an open hearing in Kabul, an official said.

In the initial session, the watchdog probed 25 complaints filed by the Change and Continuity team against ballots from 72 polling stations that had been declared invalid by the IEC. The votes of two polling stations were declared valid at the hearing.

IECC Chairman Abdul Sattar Sadat said the contenders should refrain from registration of imprudent complaints that lacked solid arguments and led to a waste of time.

Mohammad Nadir Mohseni, the IECC spokesman, said according to election laws, standards of invalidation and decision of the two institutions endorsed 70 ballot boxes invalid. He refused to give more details.

Meanwhile, Syed Habib Hashimi, a member of the Change and Continuity team, hailed the IEC decision, saying lack of knowledge had caused invalidation of most votes. He alleged invalidation standards were not applied in most of the cases.
