Work on first-ever girls’ hostel launched

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Construction work on the first-ever girls’ hostel on the university campus was launched in northwestern Faryab province, an official said on Monday.

Governor Mohammadullah Batash told Pajhwok Afghan News the girls’ hostel was being constructed on six and a half acres of land at a cost of $500,000 provided by the government of Norway.

He alleged the hostel land was earlier grabbed by mafia groups. It was given in control of the university administration after a court verdict came in favour of the university.

Eng. Gul Ahmad Fazli, the university chancellor, said construction of the 220-room hostel would help reduce the problems of student to some extent. Students are currently paying heavy accommodation costs.

He said around 2,500 students from others provinces of the country, enrolled in the university, were faced serious accommodation problems.

The chancellor said the government should construct the hostel facilities for about 3,000 students to resolve the issue.

Qandi Gul, a student of Law Faculty, said it was not possible for him to commute from Shirin Tagab district to the university due to security problems. She is currently living in a rented house to continue her studies.
