KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Construction work on an international cricket stadium was formally launched in the capital of southeastern Khost province on Friday.

Acting Governor Abdul Jabbar Naeemi and Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) Chief Executive Officer Noor Mohammad Murad attended the opening ceremony.

Apart from a large number of cricket fans, ACB official Nasimullah Danish, Khost Director of Sports Aziz Malang and the deputy chief of the provincial council were also in attendance.

Speaking on the occasion, Naeemi described the project as a good step toward hunting cricket talent in Khost. “Khost residents are enormously talented. The stadium will help their skills grow further.”

He praised the ACB role in getting the project off the ground, saying the board had made hectic efforts in this regard. On behalf of Khostis, he thanked the ACB for its untiring efforts.

ACB Chief Executive Murad said promoting the game in Khost and other parts of Afghanistan was among their priorities.  The project would help produce outstanding cricketers, he hoped.

While thanking the governor and the people for supporting the scheme, Danish said the stadium would benefit the entire eastern zone. The facility would host future event, he added.
