KABUL (Pajhwok): Construction work on residential units in the Rehman Baba township in this central capital began on Wednesday. The housing scheme in Karta-e-Naw area covers 55 acres of land.

Minister of Urban Development Hassan Abdul laid the foundation stone of the project, involving 1,464 apartments. The project is estimated to cost some $100 million, part of which has been paid by individual buyers and the rest invested by the private sector.

Hai said the project, being implemented in accordance with the Kabul Master Plan, would have all basic facilities. It will have two, three and four bedroom apartments. “Homeless people and government servants can own the houses on easy installments.”

The six-storey apartments would be completed in three years under the supervision of the ministry. Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, acting minister of economy, hoped the project would boost the construction sector and provide shelter to the homeless.
