KABUL (Pajhwok): The intelligence service on Friday announced detaining five militants and four alleged kidnappers in northern Takhar province.
The individuals were arrested in separate operations by law-enforcement personnel, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said. However, the agency gave no dates of the arrests.
In a statement, the agency said: “Three Taloqan residents, loyal to Taliban Aminullah Tayeb, were held with an explosives-rigged motorbike.”
Separately, NDS operatives arrested four other men from Taloqan on charges of kidnapping and killing a resident of Farkhar district.
The detainees, who have confessed to their crime, killed the captive and dumped his body into a canal in Baharak district. They allegedly sold the victim’s car for $1,200.
According to the NDS statement, a Taliban commander was apprehended along with an associate in the Tagab district of Badakhshan province.
The men were charged with involvement in terrorism and transferring arms to insurgent groups in Badakhshan. They are currently under investigation.
