KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Four suspects, including two university students, have been detained in connection with the killing of Abdul Qadim Patyal, a former deputy governor of southern Kandahar province, the police headquarters said on Sunday.
Patyal, also a researcher and poet, was shot dead late in October 2014 inside the Kandahar University by unknown gunmen. Patyal was attending class when the gunmen sprayed him with bullets through a window.
The police headquarters in a statement said the detective authorities had since been investigating his murder case and finally four suspects had been arrested.
The suspects were identified as Gul Ahmad, Muhammad Idris, Shah Mahmoud and Zar Ghatai. The detainees had confessed to the crime, the statement said.
It claimed two of the suspects (university students) had killed Patyal in return for two million Pakistani rupees from the Taliban’s Quetta Council.
Dossiers detailing crimes of the suspects have been referred to the attorney’s office, the police statement said. The Taliban have already claimed responsibility for Patyal’s killing
