Tokyo pledges $50m in aid to Kabul through ARTF

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Tokyo would provide $50 million from its supplementary budget in assistance to Afghanistaninfo-icon through the Recurrent Cost Window of the Afghanistan Reconstructioninfo-icon Trust Fund (ARTF), the Embassy of Japan announced on Sunday.

The aid comes in response to an urgent request from Afghanistan, which faces severe financial constraints. The amount will contribute to the government’s operating budget to pay salaries

“Japan will also provide over $10 million to the Ministry of Agricultureinfo-icon, Irrigation and Livestock’s ongoing National Horticulture and Livestock Project through ARTF,” a statement from the embassy said.

Japan has been assisting Afghanistan’s nation-building efforts in various fields ranging from security sector to economic and social development fields, such as agriculture, rural development infrastructure and human capacity development.
