KABUL (Pajhwok): Police on Thursday said elaborate security measures had been put in place for Nawroz celebrations, commencing from Saturday, in the central capital Kabul, where dozens of suspected criminals have been detained.
Addressing a press conference here, Kabul police chief Lt. Gen. Abdul Rahman Rahimi said 118 suspected criminals had been arrested over the past two weeks in various parts of the heavily-fortified capital.
He said seven magnetic bombs were found and defused and a person arrested in connection with the explosives. In coordination with other security organs, the police chief said, they had devised a special plan how to maintain security during the three-day festival that marks the start of the new Persian year.
Rahimi urged Kabul residents to cooperate with security forces in maintaining security and inform police if they noticed any suspicious activity or person. He also informed 6,000 bottles of alcoholic beverages had been seized in the 12th police district of Kabul City.
