2 children killed, 5 injured in Kunar mortar strike

ASAAD ABAD (Pajhwok): Two children were killed and five others injured in a mortar attack in the Watapur district of eastern Kunar province on Friday.

“The militants attacked police check-posts in the district with mortar shells from nearby mountains in the afternoon,” the provincial police chief said.

Brig. Gen. Abdul Habib Syedkheli told Pajhwok Afghan News one of the shells hit the house of a civilian named Mohammad. Two children were killed and five girls injured in the incident.

The house was situated near police check-posts, he said, adding all the victims were below 10. Two militants were injured when police started returned fire.

Asadullah Fazli, director of public health, said the five injured children were under treatment at the main provincial hospital. Three of them were discharged after being administered first aid.
