MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Two people were killed and three others wounded during a roadside bombing in northern Faryab province on Saturday.

Col. Mohammad Naeem Andarabi, the deputy police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the victims were going to a local desert in Sabzposh district for recreation.

The vehicle they were travelling in struck the roadside bomb in Ghazari area at 9am, he said, blaming the Taliban for planting the explosive device.

Resident Naqibullah said the victims, who were aged between 15 and 18 years, wanted to celebrate Nawroz (Persian new year) in the desert.

A relative of one of the victims, meanwhile, said the three wounded boys were in critical condition. The injured were evacuated to the district clinic.
