KABUL (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah on Monday denounced the killing of Farkhanda as a grave crime and urged people to let judicial organs punish her assassins.

Addressing a meeting of the Council of Ministers following his return from the US visit, the CEO said Farkhanda’s lynching had left everyone shell-shocked and it was a serious crime that could not be forgotten.

The issue was being investigated by the Attorney General Office (AGO), he said, hoping the perpetrators would be given exemplary punishment over the lynching that has triggered national and international anger.

A mob beat Farkhanda to death on March 18 before setting her body on fire. She was accused of burning a copy of the holy Quran and Religious Affairs.

At least 46 people, including 19 policemen, have been held in connection with her killing. Police officials were also fired for not dealing with protesters with an iron hand that led to the murder of Farkhanda.
