LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The district poilce chief of Gresh district  of southern Helmand province died in a roadside bomb late Wednesday, a senior police official said.

Col. Pacha Gul Bakhtiar told Pajhwok Afghan News on Thursday district chief Hikmatullah Haqmal came under attack in the Merman Dab locality of the area.

Haqmal succumbed to injuries in the hospital, he said, adding other police officials suffered casualties in the blast but he had no exact figure.

Haqmal was the son of Malim Mir Wali Khan, the Wolesi Jirga member from Helmand. Haqmal played a leading role to ensure security and also served as district chief in Sangin and Garamsir districts.
