‘Violence against north zone journalists on the rise’

Apr 07, 2015 - 18:09

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The journalists in the north zone said media-men were under immense threats from multiple sources and the government should ensure protection for freedom of expression.

In a memorial ceremony arranged in honour of late journalist Ajmal Naqshbandi in Mazar-e-Sharif, the provincial capital, journalist and civil societyinfo-icon activist Hamid Safot said the government miserably failed to protect journalists.

Journalists discharge their professional duties but they face a number of challenges to perform their work, he added.

Gulab Shah Bawar, director of north zone journalists association, stated violence against north zone journalists had increased 60 percent this year.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News approximately 30 violence incidents were recorded, with two of them murder cases.
