Baghlan flood-affected families demand assistance

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The flood affected families of Pul-i-Khumri, the provincial capital of northern Baghlan province, spent last night under open sky and demanded the government to provide them with immediate aid.

Heavy downpour and hail triggered flash floods that left four womeninfo-icon and three children dead and five others wounded, director of Afghanistaninfo-icon Natural Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) said.

Naseer Ahmad Kahzad said four people were still missing while rescue operation had been kicked off to recover them. The exact number of casualties and damages could not be verified, he said, fearing casualties caused by the natural disaster could soar.

Dr. Shah Mohammad Hofyani, director public healthinfo-icon department, said four women, two children, and two men were admitted to the hospital.

Emergency Response Committee Director Abdul Qadim Naizi said his organization arranged food for 2,000 affected families last night.
