Gunmen kill 8 Iranian soldiers on Pakistani border

Gunmen kill 8 Iranian soldiers on Pakistani border

Apr 07, 2015 - 16:41

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): In a latest wave of violence, gunmen shot dead eight Iranian border guards on a border with Pakistaninfo-icon, Iran's state-run IRNA news agency reported Tuesday.

“…armed terrorists entered Iran from Pakistan and clashed with border guards, killing eight soldiers before fleeing back to Pakistan,” IRNA quoted Ali Asghar Mirshekari, deputy governor of Sistan-Balochistan province as saying.

The incident happened in the Negur district of the Iranian province. In October 2013, 14 Iranian guards were killed in an attack claimed by Sunni militant group.

Both Islamabad and Tehran had vowed last year to jointly fight terrorism, narcotics and human smuggling in the border region.

At that time, both the countries also decided to ensure holding of mutual meetings to remove misunderstandings and improve better coordination.
