57 Afghans detained in Pakistan

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Police have arrested 57 Afghan nationals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistaninfo-icon, state-run Radio Pakistan reports on Wednesday.

It said that afghan nationals were apprehended during search operation for not having legal documents.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is situated close to the Afghan border where Afghan mostly travels for treatment or meeting their relatives on daily basis.

Pervaiz Khattak, the chief minister of the province, visited Kabul last week where he met President Ashraf Ghani and had discussed several issues including Afghan refugees’ problem.

The chief minister, who was accompanied by a delegation, told reporters, during his stay in Kabul, Pakistani police had been ordered not to harass Afghan refugees who possessed a special refugee card.

Authorities in Pakistan started arresting and sending back to Afghanistaninfo-icon thousands of Afghan refugees, who fled the 1980s and early 1990s unrest to the neighbouring country, after a bloody attack by Talibaninfo-icon insurgents on a Peshawar school in December last year, killing and wounding hundreds of students.

Khattak said specific cell phone numbers had been published in the media so that Afghan refugees could use them in case they faced harassment at the hands of security officials.
