JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Key organisers of the suicide attack that killed and wounded dozens of people in the capital of eastern Nangarhar province last month have been arrested, an official said on Monday.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the official told Pajhwok Afghan News the National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon), the spy agency, had arrested the main suspects in the suicide attack on a Kabulinfo-icon Bank branch in Jalalabad, the provincial capital.

The attack left at least 33 people dead and more than 100 injured on April 18. The source did not reveal the number of those detained or their nationalities

Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, the governor’s spokesman, also confirmed the main architects of the suicide attack and the killer of Angeza Shinwari, a provincial council member, had been arrested.

Separately, unknown gunmen on a motorcycle shot dead a female NDS employee after a physical clash in the Greshk district of southern Helmand province.

The gunmen shot her in one of her hands before she entered a physical clash with the assailants, who then shot her dead, the Greshk district chief, Mohammad Fahim Mosazai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The 45-year-old, Apwa, had been associated with the spy agency for eight years.

Ismat, a local resident, told Pajhwok Afghan News she was killed late on Sunday evening when most shops in the bazaar were closed.

Pajhwok Afghan News tried to contact NDS officials in Kabul for comments but could not reach any.

No group has asserted the responsibility for the incident.
