Nangarhar Ulama back Qatar peace talks

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A number of leading Ulama in eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday announced complete support to peace talks in Qatar amid calls that negotiation was the only way out for durable peace and stability in the country.

The conference titled “Afghan dialogue” on Saturday and Sunday was organised in Doha by a Canadian based organization, Pugwash Council.

A number of political parties’ leaders, lawmakers and civil societyinfo-icon activists from Afghanistaninfo-icon attended the conference.

Talibaninfo-icon have demanded a formally recognised office for themselves to continue the peace process in a statement that followed two days of talks in Qatar.


Over one hundred religious scholars in a gathering held in support of unity government backed peace talks and termed them vital for durable peace in the country.

The participants of the gathering said if peace talks could not move forward then people would stage protest against both the government and Taliban.
