Afghanistan, Croatia to sign long-term cooperation agreement

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The visiting Croatian president on Sunday reassured her country’s lasting support to Afghanistaninfo-icon, promising to sign long-term cooperation agreement when President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani visits the Eastern European country.

Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic on Sunday arrived in Kabul for an official visit to Afghanistan which is scheduled to last several days. During her unannounced visit, Grabar-Kitarovic held talks with the president, stressing enhanced bilateral relations.

“Some administrative procedure for the agreements remain to be finalised. We hope to sign the agreement when the president visit Croatia,” she told journalists in Kabul.

The Croatian president pledged her country stood with Afghanistan for reconstructioninfo-icon as part of ISAFinfo-icon mission and would continue to do so as part of NATOinfo-icon’s Resolute Support mission.

Ghani expressed gratitude for Croatia’s sustained cooperation in strengthening Afghan National Security Forces (ANSFinfo-icon). Ghani added that 50 percent of Croatia’s assistance allocated for international development was spent in Afghanistan.

“Croatia understands the situation in Afghanistan. A country that has witnessed war itself can understand us. I want to felicitate Croatia for becoming a member of European Union and turning into a transit hub in Europe,” Ghani remarked.

Grabar-Kitarovic also held talks with Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah and is expected to meet with NATO’s Resolute Support authorities as well.
