Half a dozen killed in Paktika clash

Half a dozen killed in Paktika clash

May 18, 2015 - 21:18

SHARANA (Pajhwok): Four Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel were killed and two others wounded during an overnight clash with insurgents in the Janikhel district of southeastern Paktika province, an official said on Monday.

The gun-battle erupted when militants mounted an attack on an ALP post in the Hasti locality, the provincial deputy governor told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said two Talibaninfo-icon fighters were killed and five were wounded when the ALP personnel returned fire. The injured ALP men had been evacuated to a nearby hospital.

A resident of the area confirmed the clash and said both the sides had suffered casualties.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said eight security officials and one of their fighters were killed during the clash.
