Agriculture minister unveils 100-day plan

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Presenting his 100 days plan, the agricultureinfo-icon minister on Saturday pledged to implement the plan to revive development of the vital sector.

Agriculture Minister Asadullah Zameer said his ministry plans included irrigation, wheat promotion, strategic resources, protection of food, gardening, improving industrial plants, animals’ healthinfo-icon, preserving natural resources and jungles, improving private sector, statistics and human resources.

The aim of the plan is to create an effective environmentinfo-icon in the ministry of agriculture, he said, adding that implementation of new programs would usher an era of progress and prosperity in the country.

Zameer while explaining his programs at a conference added that public and private sector participation in the agriculture would be increased.

He said that 16 irrigation networks would be activated in several zones of the country during his five years of tenure.

Creation of 200 water pools in Kabul, Herat, Balkh, Nangarhar and Kunduz provinces and activation of 30 solar pumps in the provinces were another part of his plan.

Zameer said that finalizing national wheat policy and strategic resources, selection of beneficiaries and implementation of food protection project for 2,500 families in 10 provinces are among his programs.

He added opening of gardens in 3,500 acres of land in 15 provinces and creating 130 gardens in seven provinces would be also among his goals.

Creation of 95 greenhouses in Nangarhar, Helmand, Badakhshan and Parwan provinces and activation of two cottons and oil factories would be also completed in the next 100 days, he pledged.

About livestock, Zameer said he plans to launch nationwide program for the treatment of animals disease, producing more than 500,000 doses of vaccines for animals, creating six animals healthcare centers for nomads and enforcing veterinary law.

He also promised to build 115 schools for farmers about prevention of any kinds of pests in each of 34 provinces, create 30 animal mobile clinics in seven provinces, rehabilitating of 70 acres greenhouses in the capital and other provinces and irrigating 1,600 hectares of jungles of pistachios in nine provinces.
