Taliban’s district chief killed in Paktika offensive

SHARANA (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon’s shadow district chief for the Mata Khan district was killed along with a companion during a search operation in southeastern Paktika, an official said on Saturday.

Provincial police chief Nisar Ahmad Abdul Rahimzai told Pajhwok Afghan News Maulviinfo-icon Bilal, the Taliban’s shadow district, and another militant were killed last night when ammunitions and explosive materials were also seized. Security forces remained unhurt in the operation, he added.

A local resident on the condition of anonymity confirmed the killing of Bilal in the operation.

Security forces handed over the dead bodies of two men to local people after showing them to media representatives.

The Taliban have not yet commented about the incident but their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement that four Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed and their three tanks destroyed in a landmine blast.
