UN Security Council welcomes talks with Taliban

WASHINGTON (Pajhwok): The powerful UN Security Council on Friday welcomed talks between representatives of the Talibaninfo-icon and the Afghan government in Pakistaninfo-icon recently and described this as step towards peace and reconciliation. 

Reaffirming their commitment to support Afghanistaninfo-icon on its path towards peace, reconciliation, democracy and development, the Security Council in a statement encouraged parties in the talks to continue building on these efforts through an inclusive, Afghan-led and Afghan-owned dialogue as laid forth in the 20 July 2010 Kabulinfo-icon Conference Communiqué.

The Security Council appreciated the constructive roles played by Pakistan, China, the US and international community.

Reiterated that womeninfo-icon have a vital role to play in the peace process, the Security Council recalled the need for the full, equal and effective participation of women at all its stages.
