TARINKOT (Pajhwok): A district police chief was killed during a direct engagement with armed insurgents in central Uruzgan province on Friday afternoon, an official said.

The Derhawud police chief was killed in a clash with Talibaninfo-icon militants after he visited the battlefield where clashes between police and militants had been ongoing over the past few days, the town’s administrative head, Aminullah Khaliqi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

But a security official said the police chief was among several policemen killed during the clash.

The Taliban have said nothing so far about the incident.
