Public-police liaison to check insecurity: Ulumi

Public-police liaison to check insecurity: Ulumi

Jul 22, 2015 - 21:03

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Interior Minister Noorul Haq Ulumi said on Wednesday police could not maintain law and order across the country without people’s cooperation.

The minister told a meeting of police officials in Kabul that security forces direly needed people’s support to maintain security and peace.

He encouraged people to take part and work alongside police and other law enforcing agencies for durable peace in the country.

Ulumi said the war had been imposed on the Afghans and the roots of terrorism and extremism existed outside the country.

He said security forces were effectively responding to militant attacks in every part of the country and did not allow them to reach their nefarious designs.

Moeen Mrastyl, a participant of the meeting, termed administrative corruption the main reason behind the growing insecurity and other problems the Afghans faced.

He said corruption fueled injustice and spread hatred among the people and the government should take steps for its elimination.

Ustad Massoud, an economy expert, said the Afghan police faced economic problems and could not meet their needs with the current privileges.

He said the Interior Ministry’s budget could not improve the situation of the Afghan police and there was a great need to inject more money to the ministry.

In his remarks about corruption, Ulumi said elimination of all kinds of corruption was his priority.
