SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): At least 18 insurgents and two security forces personnel were killed as a result of operations to regain control of Kohistanat district of northern Sar-i-Pul province, an official said on Wednesday.

According to officials, seven insurgents and four security forces personnel were also killed in the offensive.

Lt. Gen. Keramuddin Yawar, deputy interior minister, told journalists that security forces started operations on Tuesday from two sides of Sayad district and Adrang locality.

Abdul Jabbar Haqbin, Sar-i-Pul governor, said that uprising members took part in the fight against militants to push back them from Kohistanat district.

The security forces still did not have any breakthrough in the operations. Kohistanat district fell to insurgents nine days back.
