KUNDUZ/TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Police have seized around 200 kilograms of opium and apprehended three alleged smugglers in northern Kunduz and Takhar provinces, an official said on Saturday.
Brig. Gen. Mohammad Qasim Jangal Bagh, police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News police had arrested two drug peddlers with 140 kilograms of opium they were carrying to Kabul. The smugglers hail from western Farah and southern Helmand provinces.
Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Noor Mohammad Hakimi, Takhar police chief, said a drug smuggler was apprehended while smuggling 80 kilograms of opium to Taloqan from Badakhshan. “We have increased our efforts to control drug smuggling,” he added.
Police have also detained 16 drug smugglers while seizing 157 kilograms of opium, 111 kilograms of drug and hundred kilograms of hashish during the last one year in the province, he informed.
