Most Takhar print media outlets shut down

Most Takhar print media outlets shut down

Aug 09, 2015 - 16:57

TALUQAN (Pajhwok): Some print media outlets in northern Takhar province ceased to operate due to financial crisis, head of the local journalists union said on Sunday.

Sayed Yasin Dihzad, said the government did not have any strategy to extend financial assistance to support media outlets. He, however, said the government had earlier extended all out cooperation to expand media in the country but it needed to be sustained.

Taswir, Najwa, Algo, Ihsas and some other print media had stopped functioning in the province citing lack of funds and discrimination.

He said NGOs and other donor organizations had stopped funding media outlets and currently there was no independent print media working in the province.

He said print media officials should promote their marketing and capacities for attracting funds to reopen them again.
