GARDEZ (Pajhwok): The governor on Sunday said countless problems existed in various sectors of southeastern Paktia province.

Nasrullah Arsala told this to a consultative gathering on good governance, security and uniform development in the provincial capital, Gardez.

Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon members from Paktia, provincial council members, tribal elders, civil societyinfo-icon activists and common people attended the gathering.

Arsala said his administration had been holding consultative gatherings on reforms in all sectors over the past two months.

“In these gatherings, up to 30 issues have been identified concerning security, administrative corruption, the lack of major development projects, healthinfo-icon, educationinfo-icon and others.”

The governor said he would discuss with the central authorities issues raised at consultative gatherings.

Lawmaker Mujib Rahman Chamkani told the gathering that Paktia could not be developed due to high scale administrative corruption.

“Individuals get appointed against connections. If the administrative corruption which has reached the peak is not combated, the situation will further deteriorate,” the Wolesi Jirga member said.

But tribal elder Habibullah Mastan said: “Many such gatherings had taken place before and proposals floated, but little had been done practically.”

He said gatherings should be arranged to resolve problems, not only to listen to them.
