MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): Six months of the current nine-month academic year have passed, but still 75 percent of schools lack textbooks in central Maidan Wardak province, an official said on Saturday.

Criticising Educationinfo-icon Ministry officials, the provincial education director, Fazal Rahman Tariq, said the lack of textbooks had a negative impact on students’ learning process.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News 454,000 textbooks had been allocated for Maidan Wardak province, but so far only 88,000 of them had been received.

Governor Hyatullah Hayat held similar concerns about the lack of textbooks. He said more than half of the academic year had passed, but students could not receive the complete package of the books.

He asked the Ministry of Education (MoE) to resolve the issue and dispatch the required books as soon as possible.

Provincial Council Chief Ali Husain Baligh said he had raised the issue at a meeting with the governor and asked him to take steps its resolution.
