Rebels kidnap NDS official in Badakhshan

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Suspected militants on Saturday kidnapped a district intelligence department head in northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Saturday.

Provincial Deputy Police Chief Col. Sakhi Dad Haidari told Pajhwok Afghan News the National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) chief for Kohistan district, Mualvi Bahruddin, was on his way to office when he was abducted by a group of insurgents.

He said security forces had been dispatched to the area to secure the release of the kidnapped NDS official.

Haidari said police traded fire with the rebels in the afternoon in an attempt to set free Bahruddin.
