KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The National Security Council (NSC) on Tuesday said four gates to Kabul would be equipped with security scanners provided by China to ensure the capital’s security.

A statement from NSC said the issue of installing the scanners was discussed during a meeting between China Ambassador Deng Xijun and National Security Advisor, Hanif Atmar late on Monday.

Xijun assured his country had provide the security scanners within a month. “The scanners, when installed, will help security forces scan large and small vehicles for dangerous objects,” he said.

Chinese engineers would help Kabul properly install the scanners and guide security officers on how to use them, the ambassador said, pledging to help Afghan forces deal with security threats.

He hailed the Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistaninfo-icon (RECCA-VI) and Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) as productive and indicative of a proactive Afghan foreign policy.

Atmar appreciated China’s continued support to Afghanistan and said the Afghan people and government viewed the neighbour as a close friend over the past 12 years.

A recent wave of deadly suicide attacks and bombings in the capital has fuelled concerns among Kabul residents, who blame the government for failing to control the flow of people and objects into the city.
