On their way to Sar-i-Pul, 5 passengers kidnapped in Jawzjan

Sep 09, 2015 - 18:08

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen kidnapped five passengers from a vehicle in northern Jawzjan province, an official said on Wednesday.

Eng. Abdul Rahman Mehmoodi, the deputy governor, told Pajhwok Afghan News the passengers were on their way from Shiberghan to neighbouring Sar-i-Pul province, when they were kidnapped.

He said an investigation into the incident had been launched

A Talibaninfo-icon’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid denied Taliban’s involvement in the kidnapping incident. He said the fighters did not kidnap civilians.

The incident comes 22 days after four court officials, including the Sari Pul court of appeals judge, were kidnapped by suspected Taliban on the same route. The fate and whereabouts of the kidnapped persons remain unknown.
