67 schools closed in protest against education officers

Sep 13, 2015 - 15:31

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Dozens of schools in the Tanai and Gurbaz districts of southeastern Khost province were closed on Sunday in protest against “incompetent” educationinfo-icon officers.

Qimat Gul, a teacher from Gurbaz, told Pajhwok Afghan News all schools in the district were closed in the morning. The Gurbaz and Tanai district education officers were too weak to solve their problems.

Land plots allotted to teachers had been grabbed by powerful individuals, he alleged, warning they would not reopen the schools until the districts education officers were fired and the land plots vacated.

A provincial education department scout Qamar Khan Kamran confirmed most of the schools in the two districts were closed.

Deputy Director Matiullah Fazli said he had shared the issue with the provincial council. He confirmed the land plots had been usurped. But he did not say anything about the district education officers.
