Saudi pledges $5m in aid to Afghan health sector

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Saudi government would provide $5 million in assistance for Afghanistaninfo-icon’s healthinfo-icon sector under an agreement signed here on Tuesday.

The agreement was signed between Public Health Minister Dr. Fairozuddin Fairoz and Saudi Ambassador in Kabul Mesfer bin Abdul Rahman Al-Ghaseb.

Fairoz said the Saudi assistance would used to construct buildings for a hospital in Nangarhar, two intermediate medical institutes in Paktia, a training programme for 100 nurses in the eastern zone and purchasing 35 ambulances.

Saudi Ambassador Mesfer bin Abdul Rahman Al-Ghaseb hoped the health projects would be completed in due time and urged the authorities concerned to pay special attention to the projects.

He said the Saudi government would continue assisting Afghanistan in areas of educationinfo-icon and development projects. He said other agreements worth $19 million were being negotiated with Afghan officials and would be signed soon.

Earlier, the Saudi government has provided $25 million in assistance to Afghanistan for its education, health, food and religious sectors.
