JALALABAD (Pajhwok): More than a dozen Islamic State (IS), or Daesh, fighters have been killed and wounded in the Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province, authorities said on Tuesday.

The self-styled militant group suffered the casualties during a clash with the security personnel in Abdulkhel area last evening, the Afghan army’s 201st Selab Military Corps said.

A statement from the corps said three insurgents were killed and others wounded in the clash that erupted during operation in the district, lying close to the border with Pakistaninfo-icon’s Khyber tribal region.

Zabihullah, a resident of the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News confirmed the clash occurred in Abdulkhel late on Monday. However, he had no information regarding casualties.

Twenty-five border policemen and dozens of Daesh fighters have been killed during eight days of clashes in Nangarhar.

A day earlier, Border Police Commander Maj. Gen. Rahmatullah Raufi accused Pakistan of supporting Daesh and said strict measures had been adopted against the terrorist group.
