Rabbani seeks ex-jihadis’ help to beat rebels

TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani on Wednesday said he had established defence councils of former mujahideeninfo-icon in northeastern Badakhshan and Takhar provinces.

“I established the defence councils to cooperate with security forces in their respective areas,” Rabbani told a gathering in Taloqan after returning from Badakhshan.

He said if former jihadiinfo-icon leaders supported and assisted Afghan security forces, militants could not disrupt the security environmentinfo-icon.

A former jihadi commander, Pir Mohammad Khaksar, criticised President Ashraf Ghani for not supporting the initiatives of former jihadi commanders to defeat militants.

He said the president did not support a recent operation led by his 1st vice president Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum.

“If the government facilitates us, we can render militants in Badakhshan and Takhar unable to attack, even if the government doesn’t support us, we will defend our soil,” he said.
