QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): More than a dozen militants have been killed in different parts of northwestern Badghis province, officials claimed on Saturday, but the Talibaninfo-icon rejected the claim as groundless.

Army commander Col. Sher Ali Darbandi said they had received an intelligence report about a possible insurgent attack on the provincial capital from Aab Kamari district.

Based on the tip-off, the security personnel launched an operation the Dahna Kanaghal area of the district Friday night. At least seven Taliban were eliminated and three others wounded in the offensive.

In Maqur district, a pro-government warlord, Saleh Mohammad, said three fighters were killed in an overnight clash following attacks on security posts in Sanjadak area.

The district chief, Zarin, said another three militants were killed last night when they stormed Afghan Local Police (ALP) posts in Dawabi area. Civilians and security forces suffered no casualties in the clash.

Without commenting on the incidents, the Taliban claimed capturing Naro, Chai Sangi, Dar Gosh, Band, Pushti Hawar, Balakhana and Ashlagh Chaha areas of Aab Kamari district.
