Petrol, sugar prices up in Kabul markets

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The prices of petrol and sugar edged up and of other daily-use commodities stayed stable during the outgoing week in capital Kabul, market sources said on Thursday.

Obaidullah, a filling station worker in Qala-i-Fathullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News one liter of petrol’s rate jumped from 42 afghanis to 45 afghanis this week and the same amount of diesel remained unchanged at 41afs. He linked the hike in petrol price to a decrease in imports.

Mohammad Sharif, a liquefied gas seller in Kolola Pushta area sold one kilogram of the gas for 55afs, registering no changes in its rate.

In food items, the price of only sugar increased. Food Traders Union head Fazal Rahman said the price of a 49-kilogram of Pakistani sugar bag increased from 1,750afs to 1,830afs, linking the increase in price to decreased import of the product.

But he said 49-kg of Pakistani floor cost 1,350afs, 16 liters of Shayesta ghee 950afs and 24-kg of rice 1,650afs, the same prices as last week’s.

Ahmad Javid, a wholesaler in Kabul market, sold a kilogram of Madina green tea for 210afs and the same amount of black African tea for 240afs, no changes in their prices.

But a retailer, Ahmad Umaid, in Dahan-i-Bagh locality sold 49-kg of sugar for 2,000afs, 16 liters of Shayesta ghee for 1,150afs, 50-kg of flour for 1,400afs, 24-kg of rice for 1,800afs, a kilogram of black African tea for 260afs and the same amount of Madina green tea for 250afs.

Mohammad Fawad, a jeweler in Timor Shahee road area, said one gram of Arabian gold cost 2,100afs and the same amount of Russian gold 1,700afs, the same rates as of last week’s.

Moneychanger Ahmad Shah said the buying rate of one US dollar was 64.45afs, while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 612afs. Last week's exchange value of the dollar stood at 64.45afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 615afs.
