Ambassador Saikal presents credentials to UN chief

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Afghanistaninfo-icon’s Permanent Representative to United Nations Ambassador Mahmoud Saikal has presented his credentials to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, a government statement said.

Saikal is a senior Afghan diplomat and international development specialist with over two decades of experience with governments, international organisations, private sector and civil societyinfo-icon.

Saikal has served as special representative and senior advisor to the chief executive officer (2014-2015), deputy minister of foreign affairs (2005-2006) and ambassador to Australia and New Zealand (2002-2005).

He was involved in the promotion of regional cooperation, resulting in Afghanistan’s membership of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARCinfo-icon) and Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) and strengthening Afghanistan’s membership in Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

Saikal has a Master’s degree in International Development from Deakin University of Melbourne, as well as two bachelor degrees from the University of Sydney and the University of Canberra.
