No school in Khoshamand district of Paktika

No school in Khoshamand district of Paktika

Nov 11, 2015 - 17:41

SHARANA (Pajhwok): There is no school in Khoshamand district and the educationinfo-icon sector in seven other districts is facing many challenges, residents of southeastern Paktika province say.

The seven insecure districts are Gomal, Wormami, Waza Khwa, Terwa, Gayan, Nika and Barmal.

A resident of Gomal district, Gul Miran Kharotai, told Pajhwok Afghan News the education system in the district was in bad situation because students did not go to schools while teachers received their salaries.

“There is zero attendance because most schoolchildren do not go to school and some are studying inside their houses or in mosques without text books,” he said, adding that education efforts did not visit the district even once a year.

Another resident from Wormami district, Syed Khan, said “there are school buildings, but no one to study in. I am sure that some people are getting salaries in the name of teachers.”

Likewise, an inhabitant of Janikhel district, Haji Naz Gul, said that both students and teachers did not attend schools in their district while the teachers were getting their salaries.

Paktika education director Kuchiinfo-icon Zazai acknowledged the problems in the seven districts, saying they could not monitor schools due to insecurity in these districts.

However, he denied the claims that there were some other people getting salaries as teachers, saying there was s no such person.

There was no school in Khoshamand district, he said, asking tribal elders and religious scholars to help the government maintain security for schools.
