FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): A delegation, appointed by the Presidential Place to probe the stoning to death of a 19-year-old Rukhsana in western Ghorinfo-icon province, on Sunday vowed to strictly investigate the case and arrest the perpetrators.

The woman was stoned and the unmarried man she eloped with was whipped in Awdak Ghaleem village on the outskirts of Firozkoh, the provincial capital, on Oct. 25 by local Talibaninfo-icon militants. A short video clip of the stoning scene went viral on social media, but militants have so far said nothing about the incident.

Led by presidential advisor Anayatullah Baleegh, the delegation includes representatives from the Attorney General Office, the National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon), the Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) and the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

They met with family members of Rukhsana in Ghor on Saturday and also discussed the issue with local officials and religious scholars.

“I assure that the government is serious about the incident and wants to strictly investigate the case,” Baleegh said, adding that the stoning of Rukhsana was against Islamic values and each stone that hit her body was aimed at religion.

Provincial Hajjinfo-icon and Religious Affairs director Mohammad Shah condemned the killing of Rukhsana and called it against religious instructions.

The delegation assured the victim’s family that they would commit no laxity in arresting and punishing the perpetrators.

Abdul Karim, the father of Rukhsana, said his first demand was the arrest of the perpetrators and their conviction, saying the Taliban had also threatened him with death.

Governor Seema Jaoyenda said the central government should help the local authority in arresting the criminals. She said Rukhsana was stoned to death as a result of fatwainfo-icon by Maulviinfo-icon Yousuf, a local Taliban commander, and more than 20 people, including Mullahinfo-icon Hashim and Saadyar, were involved in the crime.
