PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Afghan Finance Minister Eklil Hakimi is due in Islamabad next week to attend a two-day meeting of the Joint Economic Commission (JEC), a media report said on Tuesday.

Signalling its willingness to keep communications open despite lingering bilateral tensions, the Afghan government has confirmed Hakimi’svisit to Islamabad.

Following s a spectacular spike in Talibaninfo-icon’s attacks, the JEC was postponed in August, when Kabulinfo-icon blamed Islamabad for failing to do enough to rein in the insurgents.

Hakimi would attend the upcoming meeting and push for the implementation of the decisions taken during last year’s visit of President Ashraf Ghani to Pakistaninfo-icon, The Express Tribune reported.

Focused on stronger bilateral trade and economic cooperation, the two-day meeting will be held on November 23 and 24.

The neighbours had agreed on 48 points during Ghani’s visit to Islamabad. Pakistan’s Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar has promised to resolve all problems, including the release of Afghan transit goods within a week.
