Nov 29, 2015 - 16:11

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Some people have begun digging historical monuments in the Kharwar district of central Logar province, local official said on Sunday.

Nasir Ahmadzai, social affairs official, told Pajhwok Afghan News historical items had been excavated unlawfully in Jozi, Bahadar and Zyar Gul localities over the past four years.

He said the excavation was being carried out in an unprofessional way, posing a serious danger to vital monuments that reflected the rich history of Afghanistaninfo-icon.

According to the official, the trend of excavating historical sites had become a major concern for the district’s residents and authorities. He urged the government to immediately halt the illegal digging.

Salim Saleh, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed receiving reports about the unprofessional and unlawful digging of historical relics in Kharwar.

He promised the provincial government would take effective steps for the protection of historical monuments and stop illegal excavations.
