Indonesian envoy asks rebels not to use civilians as human shield

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Indonesian ambassador in Kabul on Tuesday assured his country’s support for Afghanistaninfo-icon to achieve peace and stability, urging militants not to use civilians as human shield.

Addressing an annual conference of religious scholars in Kabul, Anshory Tadjudin said real scholars were those inviting Muslims towards prosperity because they could not go to mosques if there was no peace and stability.

He said the Afghan government could not deliver without peace in the country.

He said the relationship between Indonesia and Afghanistan was six decades old and his country was committed to helping Afghanistan in areas of peace, stability and capacity-building.

Hajjinfo-icon and Religious Affairs Minister Faiz Mohammad Osmani told the gathering that people trusted religious scholars and they could play a vital role in uniting the nation.

They should invite people towards tolerance, unity and accepting each others in order to end the war in Afghanistan, he added.

A religious scholar from Maidan Wardak province, Mauvi Azizur Rahman Siddiqui, said the aim of the conference to work for organizing scholars.

In a reference to the Talibaninfo-icon and Daesh militants, he said: “You should not defame scholars and Mujahideeninfo-icon by committing activities which are against Islam while you attribute the activities to Islam.”
