AIBAK (Pajhwok): A former jihadinfo-icon commander has been killed during a clash with Talibaninfo-icon militants in northern Samangan province, where another person was gunned down on Sunday, police said.

Provincial police spokesman Munir Rahimi told Pajhwok Afghan News Taliban insurgents on Saturday arrived in Akhta Khana area of Aibak, the provincial capital.

But in the afternoon on Saturday, a clash broke out between local residents and the militants after the residents asked the rebels to leave the area, according to Rahimi.

He said the clash left a former jihadiinfo-icon commander, Khaldar, dead and a Taliban fighter injured. The Taliban have so far said nothing in this regard.

Rahimi also said a gunman entered an university entry test preparation centre in Aibak city and shot dead an official of the centre. He identified the slain person as Eng. Rahimullah Abbasi, linking the murder to personal enmity.

The police official said two persons had been arrested in connection with the murder and they were being investigated.
